Join Hugo, an expert with 12 years of experience in permaculture, for an immersive farm tour that showcases the wonders of regenerative agriculture. Located in the heart of the Azores on São Jorge Island, Retiro Atlântico boasts the largest organic tropical and subtropical fruit forest in Europe, featuring over 1500 varieties of plants. Hugo, a certified nature guide with a background in history, agronomy, and ecology from Terceira University, has transformed a hill into a paradise for biodiversity. Trained by organic farming giants in mainland Portugal, Hugo’s knowledge and passion make this tour perfect for anyone curious about permaculture, fruit forests, and tasting fresh, local produce.

What We’ll Do:

The journey begins with a tour of our stunning certified organic farm, lasting just over an hour. Hugo will share the fundamentals of permaculture as we explore the diverse landscape, sampling seasonal fruits along the way. Marvel at the breathtaking views of Pico, Portugal’s tallest peak, and soak in the beauty of our lush surroundings. Discover the incredible variety of our fruit forest, including 30 types of mango, 12 of bananas, 10 of passion fruit, 6 of avocados, 7 of figs, 6 of persimmon, along with many more rare findings. After the tour, we’ll gather on a charming patio for a tasting session featuring a variety of products such as homemade jams, fruit juices, and other seasonal treats.
